My acquaintance with Mr. Kim began while I was on a business trip to Seoul. I can still feel the excitement I experienced when I first saw one of Mr. Kim's sculptures in the entrance to the Bank of Korea. Used to seeing the human form presented through western eyes, I was overwhelmed by the simplicity and beauty of this eastern approach to sculpture. As a result of his delicate and realistic technique, the sculpture seemed lifelike and one could almost hear the heartbeat and feel the breath. I knew at once that I wanted to meet the sculptor and convey my feelings to him. Upon meeting Mr. Kim, I found that he more than fulfilled my expectations. I could see through his purity, sensibility, and freedom from outside influences that he was an impeccable artist. Mr. Kim and I have developed a friendship and working relationship and I would like to introduce his talent and genius to Japan. I want as many people as possible to be able to experience the same feelings that I did as I walked with Mr. Kim in his garden in Korea and viewed his many sculptures. To help make this a reality, five of Mr. Kim's figures are being exhibited here and I want to invite everyone to come and see them. |
